My Top 5 Housewarming Gifts
-
I was talking to a customer the other day who wanted some recommendations for a good housewarming gift for a friend. I love conversations like this because I absolutely adore finding the perfect gift for someone. And moving house is one of those life moments which involves so much work and admin that I do think sending a loved one a gift to welcome them into their new home is thoughtful and always appreciated.
Ideally you want something small, that won't be something they have to struggle to find a home for immediately - they'll have enough boxes to sort and unpack without any more stress being added.
My favourite item, and my go-to gift for a new home owner is always the scented candle. The worst part of a new home, apart from the unpacking, is those early days when the house doesn't yet smell like you. Personally I find it very unsettling so a scented candle that they can just light and enjoy straightaway is always an easy win. We have a range of scented candles all from small UK makers to help with this. Click HERE for the full range.
We lived on endless mugs of tea when we were unpacking at Hare House - I was militant at ensuring the box with our kettle, mugs and milk were easily accessible as soon as we moved in so a handmade mug is a lovely gift to welcome a loved one into their new home. This hand thrown mug by Claire Folkes Ceramics in her rural studio in Essex has been designed to be handled, used and loved. It's incredibly tactile and will be a welcome addition to anyone's mug cupboard.
These hand crocheted baskets are exceptionally gorgeous and so useful they become rather addictive. I had one in my home and now I have three! Already featured in many national magazines like Country Living and Kitchens, Bathrooms & Bedrooms magazine, they are the perfect combination of usefulness and beauty. They provide brilliant storage for keys in the hallway, or hair ties in the bathroom. I have given several of these to friends recently and they make a very welcome housewarming gift.
Same as with candles, flowers or plants are always a welcome gift when first visiting someone in their new home. Some fresh herbs in one of our home made ceramic planters is a gorgeous addition to any kitchen window sill or counter. Or if they'll prefer flowers what about a pretty bunch of tulips and one of our handmade vases?
And if you're unsure what to take, or how much space your loved one has in their new home, why not take something charming and thoughtful that won't take up too much space? Our bestselling handmade wooden heart-shaped spoon is always a sure fire hit. Utterly charming and it looks super beautiful in a utensil pot in a kitchen.
