Meet the Maker: The Aldeburgh Bow Company

Large Handmade Bow in Pink Gingham

Meet Caroline, the Founder and Maker of The Aldeburgh Bow Company

What inspired you to start?

I started sewing fabric bows a couple of years ago after seeing an article in Country Living magazine about the bow trend. I had been looking for a creative outlet for a while and after watching the Sewing Bee on tv I was inspired to dust off my sewing machine and make some simple bows from a pattern I drafted myself.

Where do you work from?

I work from my studio at home in  Aldeburgh, Suffolk (actually I converted our third bedroom as it's over the garage so is quite long and narrow and full of light, plus I can leave everything out at the end of the day!)

What is most important to you when you’re making?

I enjoy the process - I love the fact that a few pieces of flat fabric become something so pretty within a relatively short period of time using just fabric and thread.

What is the name of one of your fave insta feeds which inspires you?

The Southwold Flower Company - I've followed this account from the beginning and watched Liz grow the business from a little shop in Southwold to the flower barn and farm where they are based now . She uses local growers as much as possible in her flowers as well as growing her own blooms.  Her background is photography so her insta feed is beautiful.  We regularly visit the flower farm for pyo in the summer months and I've done a couple of Christmas markets at their flower barn.

What is the best piece of advice you’d give to any other maker?

Keep it simple, go with your gut feel and just do it!

What is your favourite cake?

Best question of all; favourite cake is a classic Victoria Sponge with jam and buttercream filling.
