Embrace Your Cosy With Our Autumn Candles

There’s definitely a chill in the air today as I write this. The temperature has definitely dropped and we even had our first frost last night.

Here in the countryside, the trees are slowly turning golden and the hedgerows are thick with berries.  As I walked the dog this morning, the wind across the fields was cold and biting and for the first time I thought it’s time to dig out my woolly hat and gloves for the daily dog walk.  The season of Autumn is coming into full swing and there’s something inherently comforting about cozying up indoors in front of the fire with a hot drink and the gentle, warm flicker of a candle. I’m a big candle lover all year round but as the days grow shorter Autumn candles can really transform your space into a haven of warmth and relaxation.  Whether you’re working from home, winding down after a long day, hosting a gathering, or enjoying a quiet evening with a good book, a candle adds a touch of calm and cosiness to any moment.

Here are the top candles I'm loving in my own home at the moment to gently ease you into the Autumn.

The Jasmine and Vanilla Soy candle from Norfolk Natural Living - in its brown glass jar

The one I’ve been burning the most this week whilst working from home has been Norfolk Natural Living’s Jasmine and Vanilla candle.  I find I’m not yet ready to launch into big Winter scents of cinnamon or cloves but I am looking for warming scents, richer and darker than the candles I light on a summer’s evening. This candle has such a deliciously sweet and comforting scent.  Heavenly aromatic and rich in botanicals its beautiful blend of vanilla, patchouli, jasmine and lemon is specifically combined to boost your spirits with its uplifting aroma.  I also adore the fact it comes in a brown glass jar which works nicely with the autumnal feel.  Hand poured in their micro-perfumery in Norfolk, this 100% soy candle will last for around 50 hours.

My go to candle at the weekends has been Ethel & Co’s Ambience Candle when I need something warming but still fresh and zesty.  This candle has top notes of blackcurrant and green fig leaves with Sicilian lemon, bergamot and cardamom and just a touch of clove & cinnamon.  Handmade in their studio in Nottingham Ethel & Co only use 100% coco soy wax and lead-free cotton wicks.  Again it comes in a brown glass jar which looks fabulous nestled amongst my little white pumpkins.

The hand dipped stubby candle from Wax Atelier in Mother's Milk

I tend to light candles every supper time, even mid week.  It’s the one part of the day when we all sit down together and talk about our days and have a laugh and a chat.  It’s very important to me that we take this time as a family and lighting a candle to make the table look nicer is a very quick and easy way to give a nice warm atmosphere to our kitchen table.  There’s usually a little flower, currently a dahlia, in a bud vase on the table too.  To be honest I don’t know if the children even notice either of these things but lighting the candles always reminds me to take a deep breath and just focus on the moment of sitting down and spending time together.  These handmade stubby beeswax candles from WAX Atelier are perfect for Autumn kitchen suppers.  Hand-dipped over 35 times to get their beautifully rotund shape they’re in their classic Mother’s Milk colour.  Made with 100% pure white beeswax with a cotton wick they are made from local sources and in small batches.  I love these candles so much I’ve actually commissioned the very clever Cleiog Ceramics to make me some bespoke holders for them which will be coming into the store soon!

I also have some beautiful rustic tealight holders from Cleiog Ceramics based on vintage French cheese molds should you prefer the gentle flicker of tealights on your table.  The light is diffused beautifully through the three different patterns on the outside of each one.  You can view them HERE.
